The purpose of this law is to provide safety measures to ensure and improve safety and protection of the health of employees at work. It applies to all fields of activity (§1 of the ArbSchG).

- Advising the employer in the planning, implementation and maintenance of installations and social and medical equipment,
- Procurement of technical equipment,
- Selection and testing of personal protective equipment,
- Dealing with physiological, psychological, hygiene-related and other ergonomic questions that arise, in particular the coordination of working cycles, layout of workstations, work processes and the workstation environment,
- Organisation of first aid in the workplace,
- Dealing with questions of changes of workplace and the integration and re-integration of the disabled into the working environment,
- Observation of the implementation of protection at work and accident prevention by regular inspection of workplaces,
- Introduction of work processes and substances.
